About

I’m Justin Hoskins aka Subculture Creations. I originally hail from Adelaide but came to Cairns in August 2008, with a vision to inspire, invoke curiosity and bring creative energy with all my Sculptures.
It all began when I was seventeen… Armed with an old welder and some steel I made a candle holder and haven’t really stopped since…

Gaining inspiration from nature and some tribal elements I produce one-off sculptures and festival installations from both mild and stainless steel, copper, casting resin and wood also incorporating intelligent lighting technologies.
Natures world holds much fascination for me and I enjoy expressing my own interpretation of its structure and design in an organic sense. My works incude finely detailed Peace Lilly water features crafted in stainless steel. From the single flowered three-leaf Zen Cascade up to and beyond the Six-Flower, Twelve-Leaf Harmony Lily commission reaching for the stars at nearly three metres tall. Other flora-inspired water features include the Jurassic Bird of Paradise sculpted from copper. My previous works contain many other organic forms, each with a character of its own but all inspired by the very same beauty that surrounds us.

A tribal element and Mayan design influence is often present in my pieces as with the Pyramids of Doof, featured at Open Circuitry 2007 and The Dream Catcher installation displayed at The Rainbow Serpent Festival 2008. The Open Arms Festival- November 2008 saw one of my recent installations called “Open Arms Man” that was standing 5 meters tall and 5 meters wide representing the Shakra in its Human form.
